Who? -The ethnical groups of London

London, the largest town in not only Britain, but also the biggest urban zone in the European union. And such a large town do naturally contain not only one kind of ethnic groups, but many. It is often said that London is the most ethnical diverse city on earth, but the fact is debated.

So which are the groups? Well surprisingly, the largest non-british group is the bangladeshis, a group involving more than 200 000 individuals that are either immigrants or born in bangladeshi families. The Bangladeshi group contains several under groups, such as the well known Punjabi.

The highest concentration of Punjabis and other bangladeshi families lives around the area called Whitechapel, and the brotherhood is quite strong among them. If you want to know more about the life of a British Punjabi, I would suggest that you read the book “Un-arranged marriage” by Bali Rai. You can find it at your local bookshop, here, or if you go to my school, find it in our school library. (We've got it in both English and Swedish....)

Other big groups in London are the Pakistanis, the Turkish, the Irish and the Greeks. I find it more naturally that the Irish are a big part of the population in London than the other groups, as they live quite close to the place, but as it seems they are not the largest group.
