This is part two of my summary of British history. You can find part one here.
The early parts of the Modern era, 1485-1707 A.D
In the early parts of the modern era, or as I like to call it; the time when stuff got fancy, Britain and Scotland finally became Great Britain. The country got a single royal family, but the Kings and Queens didn't rule for a very long time each, they fought a lot about the throne. During this period of time there were several wars, most of them about which sort of christianity the country should have as it's official. For example, Henrik VIII introduced the Protestantism, only to be replaced by his daughter Maria the firsts demands on a catholic church. My summary of this; It was messy and confusing for awhile.
Great Britain becomes an empire 1707-1837 AD
At the beginning of this period of time, Great Britain was involved in several wars in Europe and America. So when the country finally had peace, the numbers of habitants increased a lot. Great Britain had also started to get more involved in trading earlier on, but during these years, the market boomed. The British people got more wealthy because of the triangular trade where cheap cotton, and other products were brought back to the Great Britain. Also in the end of this period, both the French and the industrial revolution took place, which changed the life of almost everyone. If you want to know more about the french revolution in a slightly hilarious way from one of my personal heroes, you should check this out;
The Victorian and imperialistic Time 1837-1914
During this time Great Britain flourished in difference to the rest of Europe. The country kept trading goods, and the queen Victoria the first was very beloved by the people. The parliament was not too beloved though. It had gotten more powerful, and the people wanted a change of things.
Great Britain did also start a lot of colonies in the course of this time. These colonies are today the reason to why many different parts of the world speak English, even though the colonies doesn't exist anymore.
